Daiza: |
Carved in Japan from a rosewood. Through age the wood of the daiza has shrunk slightly and the stone sits on the top lip in places,
therefore, if so wished it would require a small amount of re-carving to ensure a correct fit, however, it is qute acceptable to display as it is.

A nice quality antique suiseki in the form of a mountain range with several low, rounded peaks - of note is the dark ochre colour of this stone,
this is quite rare in Furuya stones, which are usually dark grey in colour.
The patina to this old suiseki gives a desirable feeling of age to it and would date it from the early to mid 20th century (Japanese period, Taisho to early Showa).
At some point in its history an old repair has been made to one of its edges and it has some slight flaking in a number of places.
