SUISEKI - Item # 06
KUZUYA - ISHI

Origin: Japan.
Size: 4 x 3.5 x 2.8 cm (w x h x d)
Daiza: None. This stone could be displayed on a small jiita, or set into a carpet of moss in a shallow bonsai pot.
Comments: A nice quality suiseki in the form of a rustic thatched hut with some age patina to its surface. As with many hut stones this one has been formed by working its shape - in Japan worked hut stones are enjoyed for their 'wabi' qualities, rather than their naturalness.

This poem by Fujiware no Teika (1162-1241) captures well the feeling of wabi and a rustic hut.
As I look around
cherry blossom or crimson leaves
are not to be found -
by the rush-thatched hut along the shore
in autumn's evening dusk.
Price: SOLD, with thanks.
